The Golden Mansion

She appeared in the doorway and seemed to fling an end of her turqouise scarf tantalisingly towards an imaginary lover somewhere above her...

...perhaps on a rooftop.

Then with the sensual movements of a gypsy dancer, she spun around three times...

...and went back inside.

I was again standing at the very same spot where the taxi had dropped me during the last seven afternoons.

I was once more standing there , facing the arched doorway on the first floor of the golden mansion.

I had first seen her in the silk shop.

I recall how I'd been stunned by her feline grace and her large radiant eyes.

I could not resist  entering the emporium just to be near her fragrance.

It was pure attar of roses.

The fragrance to me was as powerful as musk is to a deer.

I followed her home.

She was with her two aunts , and in a chauffeur driven car.

She emerged from the vehicle with a combination of royal elegance and a dancer's grace.

Each step that she took up the steel stairway seemed like a stage production.

At the top, she turned and I was sure that she waved to me and blew me a kiss.

This afternoon, as the setting sun flooded the area in a golden glow, I saw her again.

This time she was not alone. With her was a handsome man in an air force officer's  uniform.

As I looked on I saw her turn to him with an inviting smile.

They embraced with an obvious  passion.

Suddenly the golden glow faded. The sun had set.
